Prepared by an association of comparative literature research centers in the world (in search of new fundings. Please help: suggest a program to which the DITL could apply, organize a sub-project, prepare a seminar).

Réalisé par un collectif de centres de recherche comparatistes dans le monde (précédemment ‛Programme PluriFormations «Théorie et Terminologie Littéraires»’ financé par le ministère français de la recherche, antérieurement par le CNRS)

The terminological watch is carried by Jean-Marie Grassin in the EHIC research centre at the Université de Limoges (EA «Espaces Humains et Interactions Culturelles, dir. : Bertrand Westphal). The objets of the DITL are to : / Le DITL a pour objet de :

1) Survey the terms actually used in international criticism (through a lexicographical watch; the constitution of a thesaurus) / Recenser les termes effectivement utilisés dans la critique internationale (veille lexicographique, élaboration d’un thesaurus)

             A vocable (word, idiom or expression) is considered * a) a term, then * b) a literary term, then * c) an international literary term when

* 1- it has been actually recorded a number of times in the DITL thesaurus through extensive lexicographical surveys on important international critical documents (such as the proceedings of the ICLA, or the FILLM, widely circulated literary journals – the PMLA, or the RLC Revue de Littérature Comparée –, recognized manuals of literature, etc., to the exception of other dictionaries of literary terms);

* 2- with an acceptation which is specific to literary studies, no matter whether the term belongs to literature itself, or comes from other epistemological horizons such as psychoanalysis, political science, economy, history, sociology, philosophy, etc.;

* 3- and it has been correlated to a number of other vocables granted the same status of a literary term (see extracts from the DITL thesaurus on this site).

             There are about 13 000 lemmata in the thesaurus corresponding to almost 9 500 correlated terms; about 3 500 articles are completed or in progress (stats. in June, 2009)

2) Clarify such terms (through venues, committees, seminars, ...) / Clarifier ces termes (symposiums annuels, colloques, séminaires, tables-rondes, groupes de travail, comités thématiques ou linguistiques);

3) Define such terms (in a reference dictionary, specific publications) / Définir ces termes (dictionnaire, outils de référence, documents). Articles and documents are in English OR in French.

The reference languages are : Arabic, Chinese, Danish or Swedish, Dutch, English, French, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Sanskrit, Spanish, Vietnamese (Turkish to be added)
